 Where is Portón Andino Hostería? Portón Andino Hostería is located a few minutes away of Riobamba, in the center of Ecuador surrounded by beautiful landscapes and moderate weather which oscilate between 46ª and 59ª Fahrenheit. La Sultana de los Andes. Riobamba, ¨LA SULTANA DE LOS ANDES¨ located in Chimborazo province, was founded on August 15th of 1534 near Colta lagoon by Sebastián de Benalcazar by the name of Santiago de Quito, which was the first foundation made by the Spanish in Reino de Quito –that is today Ecuadorian territory- being one of the most important of that time. February 4th of 1797 the old city suffered a devastating earthquake, forcing the re-accommodation of the city by the Plainfield where is located nowadays.
Riobamba is the capital of Chimborazo province, is located in the geographical center of the country by the Andes highlands, reason why is near to a variety of volcanoes such as Chimborazo, Tungurahua, Altar and Carihuairazo.
Once you come to the enigmatic SULTANA DE LOS ANDES, you´ll discover that his surrounds are full of innumerable cultural, natural and architectural jewels.  “Concepción Religious Art Museum”
It constitutes one of the historic, cultural and religious jewels of old Riobamba. It presents a great number of sculptures, paintings, furniture, sacerdotal ornaments, gold and silver weavings, gold and silver works of centuries XVII and XVIII. La Custodia de la Ciudad was considerate one of the most beautiful colonial pieces, which unfortunately, by lack of security, was stolen on October 2007, although in February 2008 a part of it was recovered in Colombia.
“Pedro Vicente Maldonado High School Didactical Museum of Natural Sciences” A variety of ecological stratums of the Andean landscape and archaeological residues of the cultures: Tuncahuán, San Sebastián and Macají are exposed in this place. “Córdoba Román Historic Museum” It presents a private collection of artistic and archaeological objects, documents and possessions of the Córdoba Román family, since the colonial period until the present. This is a colonial style house located in the center of the city where Simón Bolívar verified his ascension to the Chimborazo and wrote his book “Delirium on the Chimborazo”. It is located on the center of the fountain by the Sucre Park. It was build at the same time that the installation of potable water of Riobamba, 1913.  “Pedro Vicente Maldonado High School” One of the most important architectonical work of Riobamba and a historical place because in here was signed the First Constitution of the Ecuadorian State on the year 1830, which still remains in this establishment.  Weather Weather in Riobamba is usually cold and there is two seasons: winter and summer. Winds in Riobamba can produce a sensation of almost 32º Fahrenheit during some times of the year. The highest daily temperature can be between 68º and 77º Fahrenheit, there rarely are temperatures higher than 77º Fahrenheit. Only on February 2007 a record temperature of 80º Fahrenheit was registered. |
